The labor movement means just this: It is the last noble protest of the American people against the power of incorporated wealth.

  • Term Limits For Local 1633

I have so many union members that have contacted me in the last several months since they noticed/read my last blog on the AFGE website. Members concerns consists from the re-election of our Local 1633 President next month to the OI&T service line in Region 2 & Region 3. I strongly suggest that everyone sign up for a AFGE account and password and then make a blog or respond to mine. If members start comunicating through blogs maybe all the concerns can be aired and we can feel we are more comfortable with our representatives.

    Please Consider:

There should be a two year term limitations written into all the charters within these locals to prevent curruption with all AFGE locals. The friendships developed through the mediation processes between management and union officials throughout the years tend to fog judgement so term limitations would correct this misjudgement. Also, let's remember that local 1633 has had a turbulant 30 year past and has experience leaders that have been not so good in judgement and we do not want to have to go down that path again.

  • Annual Leave for title 38 hybrids

can the policy regarding 4 hours AL for title 38 hybrids be challenged? This represents a disparity across professions within the VA.

  • TSA and President Obama

Please Mr. President, stop. Just stop sitting on the fence here. Why not just come out and tell National President Gage you aren't going to give the TSA screener's collective bargaining rights?

When you were signing pro-labor executive orders, if you had just done one then when your approval was at 64 percent, it would be over. But, no. You waited, and waited and now coming into the mid-terms, to pacify the right wing who is more afraid of union's then terrorists nothing will get fixed.

Then, after the mid-terms the 2012 jockeying will start. And again, who knows.

If you're pro-union Mr. President, tell your DHS Secretary to just sign the statement allowing collective bargaining. It's the right thing to do.

  • I need to know my Rights

I am a Army civilian worker. I first worked at Fort Drum, NY on a 2 year term position. I was very happy there but they had a hiring freeze, so I applied for many Army jobs and had offers throughout the U.S. I decided to take the job offer at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and traveled over a 1,000 miles to get to the job.

My resume is on the CPOL website is where I applied job openings and it also contains my resume. All my information is on the site with phone numbers where anyone wishing to check on my past jobs and references are free to do so.

The first day on this job, I was inprocessing. The second day I went to my department. Within the first few hours a man came to me and said my job will be SharePoint Adminstrator and I would have to put in a lot of time learning it, and that meant nights and weekends. I was told some people can?t get the SharePoint and if you don?t, I don?t know what your boss will do with you. He also told me I would be taking a 2 day introduction course for SharePoint. By the way, SharePoint is a website where information is shared with the company.

A week or so after the course the instructor had a meeting with me and another lady in my department to show us how to set the permission levels for various departments that want to upload information. That was easy enough and that's exactly what I did. The instructor said my title is SharePoint Administrator and I am in charge of the website, from design to making websites for various departments. The other girl is the back up SharePoint Administrator. She had warned me at the beginning that I should never say I don't know how to do something to my boss. My first few assignments were putting files on the site. That was easy enough and I did it. One major point I left out, I asked for more training as I am not a webmaster/designer or an IT. My job title is Automated Office Assistant per the job announcement. In the job description there was no mention of any part of this job that I am required to do. I asked and was refused more training before I was given an assignment. My boss said he didn't think I could get it, and asked what I thought. I told him of course I can get it, but I need to be proper training. He repeated himself several times, as I did, in response. I finally said I don't understand why you refuse to help me and went back to my desk. I was in shock and felt like I was being descriminated against. Another girl that works for him gets all the help she needs and I've heard him say after a training question how it went. Much of the job she does is what I had applied for. She has a Masters degree. They have known each other as they were both in t he Army reserves together. She told me she has a masters degree. I asked her, knowning the answer, if she recieved any training. She said no, though I know for a fact she has had training. My education of office work is from on the job training and I have 20 years. I've never known any company that refuses to properly train employees, when they hire knowing the employee doesn?t know how to do the job.

I have to build a website in the next 2 weeks and I have no training to do it. This is urgent as I know they are trying to fire me. All this became worse when my union rep. got in touch with CPAC, explaining my situation. The job description my boss gave me is not the same job that I applied for. I have both job descriptions and the one I applied for on the Army website.

Also, I am in charge of fixing computer software for over 100 employees. I am not a IT Specialist and I have no experience in that.

I feel I am being descriminated against as the lady in my department has received help and is treated much different than I am treated. I've been at this job for 39 days. I look forward to any suggestions. I am a member of the AFGE union, though the man that helps me has been quite busy lately and he doesn't know the recent developments. I am 58 years old and this is wearing me down.
